DVORANA Dance

Dvorana - Vintage Dance Weeks 2010

Part II - Kiev, July 30 - August 3

Accommodation

First of all, please, before leaving your own country, make sure whether you require visa to enter the Ukraine. We are aware that the Ukraine considers re-introduction of entry visas for Europe and the US. If that happens, you won’t be let in without a visa.

For more information call your local Embassy of Ukraine.

The accommodation is arranged in the Ukrayina hotel. It is situated in the Independence Square in the very centre of the city, easily reached by the underground trains, or on foot. The building is a typical example of the Soviet architecture of the early sixties of the last century.

The standard of accommodation is not exactly what we, perhaps, are used to. The level and organisation of services is still very much stuck in the Soviet era. We tried to find for you the best standard available. We hope you will be satisfied with our choice, and may even be pleasantly intrigued by the practices that differ from the sterile uniformity of the standard European hotels. For a start, you will notice a woman-in-charge sitting on each floor by the lift, and you may wonder what exactly her function is – making sure the guests do not get lost on the way to their room, or just keeping tabs on the guests’ movements? It looks like a human version of the surveillance culture we in the West know quite well already.

The address of the hotel is:

Transportation

We presume that it would be cheaper and more convenient for you to arrange your travelling as a single package (home – Prague, Prague – Kiev, Kiev – home). This would enable you to fly from Kiev directly back home, rather than via Prague. For that reason we are not going to arrange your travel between Prague and Kiev.

During our stay in Kiev we are going to use the local buses and the underground system, and we’ll walk. A bit of exercise should be no problem for adept dancers.

Should a bigger group arrive at the Kiev airport within a short time span, we would consider hiring a minibus, but that decision remains open until we know the participants’ travel plans. Currently we would advise that everyone find their own way from the airport to the hotel.

Arrival

On arrival you will probably have to muster all your patience. The immigration control is simple and without problem, but the queuing may seem endless. We recommend that you use a cab to get to the hotel. We tried public transport and the travel was very complicated. The taxi fare should cost you about UAH 200 (about 25 US Dollars).

We shall meet at the hotel Ukrayina on 30th July. Those who did not participate in the first part of the course in Prague will be expected to register at the Dvorana desk in the hotel lobby from 3 pm onwards.

We shall leave the hotel at 5 pm to start our Ukrainian programme. Should you use a later flight, you will be able to catch up with us at the dinner.
(We shall resolve the details individually.)

Meals

Breakfast and one hot meal (usually dinner, occasionally lunch) each day are included in the price. Drinks are extra. Vegetarian meals can be arranged on request (see the registration form).
